We are sorry, but starting with such title, means biasing the whole article.

“In the INDECT projects are currently being acquired skills which are required for centralized monitoring of all information and communication-related subsystems of society.”
This not exactly true, the research is aiming at monitoring selected criminals threats and not the society as a whole. Any tools implemented by services providing security should obey national and European regulations.

“Whether Facebook chat, phone conversation, vehicle navigation, emailing, Internet search, current consumption or payback card – INDECT goal of the projects is the integration of all anyone at any time within a centralized data generated by real-time evaluation.”
No research is conveyed on sensitive data like Facebook chat, phone conversation, current consumption or payback card. For other sources, like vehicle navigation, takes place targets only specific, predefines suspect resources.

“The surveillance state”, “INDECT is in the context of a totalitarian nightmare of consumer-driven foreign control, police state”
Given the above, this is not an objective at all. Please note that analyzing the information that criminals give available about themselves in public spaces (e.g. publish on Facebook), cannot be classified under surveillance state. To fully answer the question we should firstly agree on the basic issues: does society need police services? is police authorised to use tools which allow it for efficient fighting crimes and threats for individual citizens and society as a whole?

“human interaction and participation will be monitored”
As mentioned before, monitoring is limited do preselected criminals, not “humans” as a whole. The process is just an automation of current police work.

“A public API access to the central structure”
No public access to INDECT components is planned, the end-users are interested national police departments.

“a regulatory system is created”
The INDECT project is a research project, there are no legislative activities planned by the project. The rest of article (“you inform your cell phone about special offers from your respective current neighbourhood, your glasses to you provide you with additional information on watched others, the advertising wall that goes past her, the ideal holiday destination displays”) is actually far beyond the scope of INDECT research project, sounding more like a futuristic view of technological applications, so we do not comment it. As transparency issues have been mentioned in the article, we would like to notify that all relevant information of the INDECT project have been, are and will continue to be made publicly available on the project’s website: (www.indect-project.eu).
